Sr. Java Developer

Cambridge, MA

6+months

 

Enterprise Business Intelligence team is seeking an experienced Sr. Java developer responsible for building Java applications, to work as part of a project team. The job includes anything between complex groups of back-end services and their client-end counterparts. Primary responsibility will be to design and develop these applications, and to coordinate with the rest of the team working on different layers of the solution infrastructure. The teams are small and follow Agile Scrum or Agile Kanban depending on the needs of the project and the best approach for the team.

 

Responsibilities:

Translate application storyboards and use cases into functional applications

Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable Java code

Ensure the best possible performance, quality, and responsiveness of the applications

Identify bottlenecks and bugs, and devise solutions to these problems

Help maintain code quality, organization, and automatization

Responsible for researching, analyzing, coding, and testing all changes, drawing on user and technical resources to successfully complete the request

 

Skills :

Proficient in Java, with a good knowledge of its ecosystems

Solid understanding of data structure and object-oriented programming

Skill for writing reusable Java libraries

Strong skills in Unix, SQL & JDBC, Web Services, and XML

Implementing automated testing platforms and unit tests

Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git

Working knowledge with mySQL and Oracle

Ability work independently, critical thinking, good communication, documentation, and testing skills.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Degree in Computer Science or Mathematics preferred

Experience with Agile or Scrum is preferred

Experience with ETL and data modeling a bonus

At least 6 years of advanced computer programming skills in Java, JavaScript, HTML, JSP, Java Servlet, Javabean, EJB, OO Design, Active Server Pages (ASP)

Advanced programming skills in J2EE technology, such as JNDI, JMS, RMI, JNDI, XML, XSL, XSL-FO and JDBC.

At least 10 years of overall IT related work experience.

At least 2 years of Unix Operating System and Utilities

Candidate fully understands the value of Agile Scrum/Kanban and take an active role in following the discipline Agile forces on the development cycle.

Candidate committed to delivering results of the highest quality to demanding dates.

 

Flexibility:

The work will change and project phases will start, stop or continue. Candidate should be ready to change to project phases quickly and rapidly adopt.

 

Communication:

Candidate with clear, concise and strong written & oral communication skills.

 

Analytical/Creative:

Candidate will challenge the current approach when appropriate, take a step back and see if it can be improved, tweaked and ask if there might be a simpler approach
