Sr. Hadoop Developer

Plymouth, MN

Senior Hadoop Development Consultant


Project/Projects:Data Analytics as a Service (DAaaS) platform initiative development

Candidate will be part of Enterprise Application Architecture team (~5 members) involved in the DAaaS initiative.

Top 5-10 responsibilities for this position:
- Work on cutting edge Big Data technologies: execute Proof-of-Concepts, create reusable components/frameworks, document technology usages
- Evaluate tools and technologies in the context of the future state architecture, and evolving business requirements
- Participate in the design of information and application architectures on the basis of cost, functionality and practicality
- Facilitate open communication and fact-based decision making
- Collaborate within and across teams to establish and document best practices in various technology areas
- Provide technology operational support as new systems/platforms are rolled out to the enterprise

Software tools/skills needed to perform daily responsibilities:
- 7+ years of software development and architecture experience using Java EE technologies (Application Server, Enterprise Service Bus, SOA, Messaging, Data Access Layers)
- 3+ years of Linux/Unix shell scripting, programming experience
- 3+ years of design and developing in Hadoop technologies (MapReduce, Pig, Oozie, Flume, Sqoop)
- 2+ year SQL/No-SQL Hadoop technology (Hive, HBase)
- 2+ year working with search technologies like Lucene, Solr, or Lucidworks
1+ year working with MapR Hadoop distribution

Skills/attributes that are a must have:
- Experience with large scale domain or enterprise solution analysis development, selection and implementation
- Experience with high-volume, transaction processing software applications
- Experience building multi-tier applications using Java EE technologies
- Good understanding of workload management, schedulers, scalability and distributed platform architectures
- Good understanding of Hadoop technology components and internals
- Proven ability evaluating technologies, contrasting capabilities and making recommendations
- Proven success in implementing new technologies in large enterprises
- Excellent written/oral communication skills

Skills/attributes that are nice to have:
3+ years architecture/lead developer experience for large scale enterprises
1+ year working with presentation/visualization/business intelligence technologies like Datameer, Tableau
Experience designing and developing software systems for healthcare
