Position: Java Developer / Digital Server-Side Engineer
Location: San Francisco, CA
Duration: 6+ months contract
Description:
Client looking for a contract Sr. SW Engineer for server-side development on their Store Digital team. The store digital team develops mobile apps (mostly iOS) for deployment in stores, which communicate with back-end systems for various functions.
This role will be responsible for data feed processing, data synch from server to devices, data management, logging, and more.
Someone who is strong on Java/J2EE and synchronizing mobile data.
Server-Side Engineer Qualifications
- Extensive experience with technical design, hands-on development, unit testing and delivery to production of solutions using server-side technologies including Java / J2EE, Tomcat / Apache (or other web / app servers). Experience with Node JS is strongly desired.
- Experience processing data feeds and other batch processing, extensive knowledge of relational databases – MySQL experience is desirable.
- Experience developing web services for mobile devices; understanding constraints of working with mobile devices – bandwidth, network availability, processing power, storage constraints – and having the ability to deliver optimal solutions for this environment
- Extensive experience designing back end solution where client systems operate in an offline mode at times, requiring data synchronization, request queuing, and data caching
- Knowledge of networking (HTTP protocols). Scalable systems that manage connectivity over unreliable networks. Expertise on UNIX server platforms
- Experience using CMS platforms, prefer Drupal
- Expertise in Javascript, and JSON
- Experience integrating mobile devices with disparate back ends and vendors – using services and/or data feeds - and debugging the inevitable issues that arise
- Excellent written and spoken communications
- Excellent documentation skills
- Ability to work in a dynamic team environment, with a mix of local and remote resources
- Bias for getting things done, overcoming obstacles, taking ownership of difficult problems, critical but constructive discussion, keeping a positive attitude
