Role: SQL Server DBA
Location: NYC, NY
Duration: About 5 months
Need only GC/US citizen
SCOPE OF SERVICES
The Client needs a Microsoft SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA). The person in this role is largely responsible for providing operational database services to the organization. Some of the primary responsibilities of this role would include resolving and tracking database related incidents and requests, performing database backups and restores, reviewing service related reports (e.g.: database backups, maintenance, monitoring) on a daily basis to ensure continuity of service delivery. The DBA will also provide support and database technical guidance to software developers and business users while maintaining a good working relationship with Client.
MANDATORY SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
- A baccalaureate degree in computer science or a related computer field and six (6) years of satisfactory full-time experience in Microsoft SQL Server Database Administration.
- 7+ years of experience in database administration and support in MS SQL Server environment (2008 and up).
- Strong knowledge of backups, restores, recovery models, database shrink operations, DBCC commands, database mirroring, and SQL Server Replication using publishing and subscribers.
- Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, replication issues, connectivity issues, security issues etc.
- Experience in Performance Tuning, Query Optimization, using Performance Monitor, SQL Profiler and other related monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
- Ability to detect and troubleshoot SQL Server related CPU, memory, I/O, disk space and other resource contention.
- Strong knowledge of how indexes, index management, integrity checks, configuration. How statistics work, how indexes are stored, how they can be created and managed effectively.
- Knowledge of SQL Server tools ( Profiler, DTA, SSMS, SAC, SSCM, PerfMon, DMVs, system sprocs)
- SQL Development – ability to write and troubleshoot SQL Code and design ( stored procs, functions, tables, views, triggers, indexes, constraints )
- Documentation skills for processes and procedures ( creating KBs, runbooks, topology etc )
- SQL Database Operational support to tech users
DESIRABLE SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
- Solid acquaintance with windows server, security delegation, and storage components.
- Documentation skills for processes and procedures ( creating KBs, runbooks, topology etc )
- Knowledge of 3rd party DBA tools and applications ( e.g Redgate, idera, Erwin )
- Knowledge in a scripting language like Powershell, VBScript, WSH
- Certified - Microsoft Certified Solution Expert (MCSE)
