Project Description:
The Enterprise Data Service (EDS) program will develop a centralized data hub that will receive data from all the source systems in the Enterprise, process and standardize the data, perform data quality checks and deliver the data to any consuming applications. We are assembling a team that will implement an Open-Source, Big Data, No-SQL, Column-Oriented Database (Cassandra) utilizing underlying Hadoop capabilities (Map-Reduce). We will be developing a Metadata Management Framework to document and accelerate the sourcing and distribution of data. Along with the data acquisition and data distribution capabilities, we will be supporting this with strong Data Management & Governance Processes to ensure quality throughout.
Big Data Infrastructure Engineer
The Infrastructure Engineer will take the lead in designing, implementing and operating Big Data infrastructure solutions to meet current and emerging business and technology needs. This position will be responsible for infrastructure planning, scaling, software deployment and administration. The administrator will work closely with infrastructure, network, database, and application teams to insure business applications are highly available and performing within agreed on service levels.
Job Description:
• Configures and manages Cassandra/Hadoop/Application cluster and eco-system.
• Executes management and administration tasks for cloud-based infrastructure components and services.
• Develops and maintains documentation of deployed infrastructure and related maintenance, installation and configuration procedures.
• Repairs and recovers from hardware, software, or network failures and communicates proactively with impacted functions.
• Implements and maintains monitoring tools like HP Openview, Datastax Opscenter.
• Performs ongoing performance tuning, hardware/software upgrades and resource optimization as required.
• Performs periodic LINUX, VMware (Hyperic), cloud computing and networking administration tasks.
• Manages releases and software deployments.
• Works with other infrastructure teams and company processes.
Qualifications
• Minimum 5 years of administration experience in a cluster environment and understanding of system performance areas (memory, swap, disk i/o, network i/o, etc.)
• Minimum 2 years of experience in scripting languages like shell, python etc.
• High proficiency with Linux/Unix and open source tools/platforms
• Knowledge with OS and Infrastructure (Cloud and On-Premise) in an operational environment
• Ability to balance and tune cluster nodes for performance
• Experience with network monitoring tools such as HP OpenView
• Experience with various virtualization technologies, preferably VMware Hyperic
• Hands-on experience with multi-terabyte Hadoop/MapReduce Infrastructure is a plus
• Experience with large scale environments build and support including design, capacity planning, cluster set up, performance tuning and monitoring
• Understanding of Cassandra and Hadoop eco system such as HDFS, MapReduce, Pig, Hadoop streaming, and hive is a plus
• Understanding of JVM administration and crash trace analysis
• Experience with applications that ingest and transform large amounts (TB) of data
• Experience with NoSQL database a plus
• Experience with production / disaster recovery datacenter setup
• Experience with Maven and Java is a plus
S/he should be methodical and detail oriented, but should also be able to think strategically and creatively. S/he should have very good communication skills and be comfortable interacting with people at all levels in the organization. Must have a desire to learn, and be quick to embrace new technologies and approaches.
