We have an urgent position of Data and Technology Project Manager with one of our direct client in California.

 

Contract: July 22, 2013 through June 30, 2014

Location: Sacramento, CA

 

DATA & TECHNOLOGY PROJECT MANAGER

 

As the Data & Technology Project Manager, the Project Manager will work together with the Business Intelligence Delivery Project Manager to ensure business objectives are well integrated into the business intelligence/data warehouse development/maturity plan. The Project Manager will have the opportunity to develop and communicate technology models, processes, tools, standards and methodologies used in the business intelligence/data warehouse domains in support of the three business objectives and in alignment with the overall IT and CalPERS business strategy.

 

DUTIES

•      Manages the Data & Technology project team, providing direction to CalPERS technical staff as well as other consultants. 

•      Communicates with internal and external parties on project status and negotiates effectively for the timely resolution of issues/risks. The PM may represent CalPERS before the public, Board of Administration, and numerous statewide organizations in matters related to the work of the project. 

•      Drives the implementation of approved projects through the Project Management Process to:

ú  Identify technical drivers for the project

ú  Ensures requirements are developed, tracked, and prioritized to support customer needs

ú  Scope out current and future project phases

ú  Create resource plan, roles, and responsibilities

ú  Manage user expectations, schedules, performance, and availability

ú  Identify critical success factors and mitigate risk

ú  Establish effective change control

ú  Performs Risk Assessments throughout the life of the project

ú  Manages risks including identifying mitigation strategies and issues to resolution

ú  Must enter accurate project data timely into Enterprise Project Portfolio as needed

ú  Must utilize CalPERS Project Management Methodology for project plans and Primavera project scheduling tool

ú  Must attend PMO Project Management Review meetings as needed

ú  Prepare successful deployment, rollout and ongoing support

ú  Reports to the CalPERS Business Intelligence Program Lead

 

Minimum Qualifications

•      Must have a minimum of four (4) years of broad and extensive project experience; at least three (3) years of said experience must have been directly managing projects at least 12-months in duration, and have at least 5 project staff.  Some of the projects need to be in the field of business intelligence and/or data analytics

•      Must have solid experience / knowledge of IT environments and projects and strong background in applications development methodologies, SDLC, Agile/Scrum and/or other IT industry standards

•      Must have proven experience in managing data center or similar projects

•      Must have experience in managing multiple technical project teams to deliver the projects on time and within the budget

•      Must possess a Project Management Professional (PMP) Must have understanding of information technology fundamentals, architecture, web technologies, portal technology, business intelligence, and CRM

Minimum Qualifications

•      Must have the ability to reason logically and creatively and use a variety of analytical and research techniques to solve complex problems; analyze situations and propose an effective course of action; analyze data; identify the need for and provide creative thinking related to complex problems, develop and evaluate alternatives

•      Must communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with a variety of audience types using different mechanisms including informal updates, formal presentations, business case documents, and other analytical and technical documents

•      Must have participated in at least two (2) or more successfully completed projects

•      Must possess a strong understanding of information technology fundamentals, project management fundamentals, and systems development life cycle

•      Must have the ability to establish and maintain strong cooperative working relationships and to use inter-disciplinary teams effectively in managing project tasks and activities under the direction of the Project Manager

 

Desired Qualifications

Although we do not expect every individual to have every qualification below, it is expected that all consultants do bring one or more of the following: 

•      Pension Analytics

•      Health Care Analytics

•      Customer Service Analytics

•      Various Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) related Analytics – Financial, Human Capital, Supply Chain, Corporate Operations

•      Risk Analytics

•      Agile Project Management and Development

•      In-memory Architecture experience

•      Unstructured Data experience
