Network Security - Firewall Support

Kansas City, Mo 

3+ years

This position is located on the Network Security Staff of the National Information
Technology Center (NITC). Incumbent is an intermediate level security analyst I
engineer and functions as a program support staff sustaining the following NITC
security systems:
• Responsibilities include installation, administration, monitoring, operation,
analysis, maintenance, and reporting of the NITC firewall, Access
Controls, and Virtual Private Network (VPN) systems. The incumbent:

o Must have a detailed understanding of firewalls and remote access
systems to strengthen the security posture of the NITC enterprise.
REQUIRED: 2 years combined experience with 2 of the 3 following
technologies: 1. Checkpoint NG Firewalls I VPNs 2. Netscreen
(also called Juniper) Firewalls I VPNs 3. Cisco Firewalls (Pix is
acceptable but prefer Firewall Service Modules).
o Documents all aspects of the system for daily operations and
disaster recovery, in addition to adherence of federal certification
and accreditation requirements.
o Provides statistical reporting to illustrate security posture and
continuous improvements.
o Must stay current on security skills by attending training annually at
the cost of the contracted organization.
o Participates in the creation, review and enforcement of security
policy, procedures and system documentation.

o Evaluates, recommends for acquisition, implements, or
disseminates IT security tools, procedures, and practices to protect
organizational systems.
o Updates system contingency or disaster recovery plans.
o Conducts security system and documentation reviews for managed
systems.
o Analyzes systems performance of new and existing equipment.
o Provides knowledge transfer to government counterparts
• In a backup capacity, responsibilities include installation, administration,
operation, analysis, maintenance, and reporting of the firewall monitoring
system. The incumbent:

o Must have an understanding of system log management and
retention to strengthen the security posture of the enterprise.
o Documents all aspects of the system for daily operations and
disaster recovery in addition to adherence of federal certification
and accreditation requirements.
o Provides statistical reporting to illustrate enterprise security
improvements.
o Must stay current on security skills by attending training annually at
the cost of the contracted organization.
o Participates in the creation, review and enforcement of security
policy, procedures and system documentation.
o Evaluates, recommends for acquisition, implements, or
disseminates IT security tools, procedures, and practices to protect
organizational systems.
o Updates system contingency or disaster recovery plans.
