Title: Functional Manual Senior Tester
Location: Cincinnati, OH
Length: 6 Months+
The tester supports quality assurance programs and processes in alignment with QA strategy.
The tester is responsible for providing feedback on artifacts developed during requirements and analysis phase within client projects; authoring test plans and test cases; and performing test execution for both project and support related activities.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Work within various test methodologies such as agile and/or waterfall
2. Create QA Task List in order to meet objectives and deadlines
3. Participate in Requirement & Design Doc review session; evaluate requirements & design docs from a quality testability standpoint
4. Create Detailed Test Cases for full requirement coverage/traceability
5. Execute Test Cases to validation correct functionality of application
6. Manage test coverage based on risk analysis
7. Use SQL for back-end database validation
8. Document defects and evaluate priority of defect based on overall application functionality
9. Coordinate Test Case Reviews with stakeholders are being held as appropriate.
10. Perform various types of testing including white box, black box, integration, back-end DB validation, system testing as needed
11. Adhere to requirement review, defect writing & test case writing guidelines
12. Coordinate testing efforts between 3rd party testing team.
13. Keep Lead Tester informed of current state of quality and test progress
14. Ensure completion of all deliverables within schedule, budget and quality constraints.
15. Participate in Root Cause Analysis sessions
16. Ensure that projects follow prescribed software development life cycle standards.
17. Develop and maintain good relationships with project team.
18. Identify obstacles and roadblocks; and offer suggestions to work around obstacles
Requirements:
The ideal candidates should possess: Bachelor's degree in IS or related equivalent work experience in an Information Systems position and 3-5 years of experience in job duties. Experience in discipline of functional testing. Understanding of regression testing techniques
Skills Description:
Experienced with SQL – back-end DB validation (SQL Scripting)
Understanding of steps within test process under both waterfall and agile
Understands focus of various testing types: black / white box, unit, integration, system, user acceptance, etc.
Experienced in requirement & design doc reviews – ability to evaluate requirements & design docs from a quality testability standpoint
Ability to work with BA & Development to clarify requirements and design
ability to write defects and evaluate priority of the defect based on overall application functionality
Understands relationship of Requirements to testing
Ability to effectively and frequently interact with Business Analysts, Technical Leads, and Architects
Able to analyze and specify test environment requirements
Understands release management procedures
Manages testing effort to typical project constraints: budget, schedule, environment, etc.
Ability to work towards and meet deadlines – good self time management skills
Able to establish and drive requirements testability and traceability
Articulates gaps found in requirements and escalates associated risks
Conducts / facilitates / drives quality risk analyses
Ability to estimate work based on quality risk
Experience documenting detailed test plans 3+
Provides relevant QA feedback to software design
Strong test case modeling / design experience
Effective at verbally validating planned test scenarios with technical and business stakeholders
Synchronizes test design activities with development design activities
Ability to prioritize test case creation based on risk
Ability to manage test case coverage based on risk
Ability to coordinate testing efforts between 3rd party testing party
Able to identify critical test artifacts from repository for unique purposes (i.e., smoke test, regression, etc)
Strong communication skills
Drives test execution: prioritization, communication, pacing
Understands / communicates relationship between test execution and software build deployments
Coordinate / communicate software build deployments to test environment, including planning, prioritization, content, and results
Able to prioritize testing by relative risk
Able to establish regression testing target areas based on previous results and risk
Able to track and articulate defect trend data
Familiarity with commercial defect tracking tools
Understanding of standard defect life-cycle models
Ability to articulate software quality metrics concepts, value, purpose, processes, etc
Drive / facilitates defect triage and resolution activities
Can routinely articulate test progress succinctly in terms of quality, progress, risks, schedule, budget, issues, actions, etc
Drives quality risk identification with project manager
Drives quality issues resolution
Conducts root-cause analyses on discovered defects and articulates results
Contribute to decision making around pilot and production readiness
Articulate final test results reporting
