Job Title Database Developer (with SSIS emphasis)
Duties Department Overview : eCommerce Business Intelligence and Optimization ( eBIO) The Operations team supports Symantec's online sales business, representing approximately 1 billion dollars in annual revenue. Online sales includes selling Symantec products, both consumer and small business, through the online Symantec storefront at www.symantecstore.com. The online storefront consists of over 30 separate stores across the world, with multiple languages, currencies and payment options as appropriate. The online storefront environment includes a number of online partners, including service providers, financial institutions, public sector institutions, PC manufacturers and other online communities. The Database Developer for eBIO will report to the Manager of Data Platform at eBIO and be responsible for the definition and implementation of eCommerces worldwide data platform administration, development and Project Release Management for eBIO. Specifically, it requires developing custom reports and custom ETL scripts for datamarts, ensuring reliable performance and availability in a 24x7 environment for a worldwide community. Success in this role will result in the Database Developer for eBIO assisting development and release management for the entire data platform for eCommerce globally. Responsibilities -Generating custom SQL reports to address ad-hoc requests from Business communities -Developing and maintaining ETL processes to populate departmental datamarts and key data feeds -Investigating data issues and recommending realistic solutions based on operational constraints -Performing data analysis and data mining -Designing, developing and implementing database processes and programs to import, export and process data for reporting and analysis to measure the efficiency of business operations globally -Automating, maintaining and improving current processes to ensure uninterrupted operations and pro-active warnings -Observing Project Lifecycle and performing object migration across different environments (DEV/QA/PROD) -Participating in design and code reviews -Fine tuning reporting queries and report implementation to ensure that the BI/RDBMS Servers are not impacted adversely -Defining and maintaining Business Continuity plans for data platform for eBIO -Working in a distributed global team environment across US, Europe and Asia Pacific
Skills -Must be a proven top performer and team player that enjoy challenging assignments in a high-energy and fast growing workplace. -Must be able to manage multiple tasks to deliver according to schedule and priority -Must be a self-starter and quick learner -4+ years experience in database, data warehouse, business intelligence, or software development -3+ years experience delivering ETL solutions with SQL Server Information Services (SSIS). -Heavy experience with MS SQL Server is required. Some experience with other databases such as Oracle is assumed. -Experience in performance tuning -Experience in OLTP and OLAP techniques and technologies -Deep understanding of RDBMs and Data Modeling Techniques -Experience with Microsoft and Unix Operating Systems Desktops and Servers -Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly present complex technical topics to technical and non-technical audiences. Must be a good listener. -Detail oriented with superior analytical, problem solving, pragmatism and organization skills.
Education -Bachelors or Masters degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering or a closely related discipline and 4 (four) years of experience in the Job Offered or 6 (six) years of experience in software engineering, Databases, Data warehouse, Business Intelligence, Architecture and Operations. -Knowledge of MS SQL Server and SSIS is required. -Knowledge in Microsoft Excel and Access as supplementary tools is required. -Knowledge of other databases like Oracle is a BIG plus.
