Dear Group Members,

Pl see what best you can do in individual capacity or as organisation for this small initiative. Detail Projection for 2011 is been attached. We also have request for education aids and other similar request too.

Few Local Groups has been identified who are good at sewing work for the income generation / entrepreneurship 

Regular work is managed for these groups. Daily income can be generated is Rs 50 /- ie Rs 1500/- pm Plus

Sewing Machines are required. Overall 100 such members are identified. The cost of one Sewing Machine is around Rs 10,000/-.

Request to sponsor at least one sewing machine cost. The donation for the same can be given in Trust Name.

The above groups / members will repay the amount in easy installments. This will take care of the further need and more such people can be helped by recycling the same funds / grants / donation.

Details will be provided on request. All the donor will be updated regularly.

Understand Your PAN Card

 

Whether you are an Indian citizen or an NRI, if you are filing taxes or have financial transactions in India you will almost always need a PAN card.

  

What is PAN?

A Permanent Account Number (PAN) is a ten-digit alphanumeric number, issued in the form of a laminated card, by the Income Tax Department of India. Each set of numbers is unique to the individual, HUF, company, etc. (We will take a closer look at those numbers in a moment.). PAN is a permanent number, is unaffected by a change of address, even between states and is not transferable. It is illegal to own more than one PAN.

 

The PAN's primary purpose is to bring a universal identification key factor that links and tracks various documents and information regarding taxes and financial transactions, such as loans, investments, buying and selling real estate and other business activities of taxpayers. By tracking the above it indirectly prevents tax evasion through non-intrusive means.

 

You can consider this number to be similar to the Social Security Number issued in the United States to USA citizens and other legal residents.

   

Structure of the PAN

The structure of the new series of PAN numbers is based using Phonetic Soundex code algorithm to ensure that each number is unique. The following list is "constant permanent parameters" that assist in the creation of phonetic PAN (PPAN) number:

 

i. Full name of the taxpayer;

ii. Date of Birth/Date of Incorporation

iii. Status;

iv. Gender in case of individuals; and

v. Father's name in case of individual (including in the cases of married ladies).

 

    

The 10 Digit Alphanumerical Sequence

Let's take a look at the breakdown of the 10 digit alphanumerical sequence:

1. The first five fields are called the core fields and are alphabetical in nature.

2. The first three letters of the core field are an alphabetical series running from AAA to ZZZ.

3. The forth character of the PAN must be one of the following, depending on the type of assesse:

C – Company

P – Person

H — HUF (Hindu Undivided Family)

F — Firm

A — Association of Persons (AOP)

T — Trust

B — Body of Individuals (BOI)

L — Local Authority

J — Artificial Juridical Person

G — Govt

 

(Example – Company = AAACA; Artificial Juridical Person = AAAJA; HUF = AAAHA; etc.)

  

4. The fifth character of the PAN is the first character of the following:

a) Your surname in the case of "P" or;

b) For all others you would use the first letter of the name of the Entity, Trust, Society, Organization, HUF, etc.

(Example - Lisa Chanamolu [Personal] = AAAPC4444A; Lisa Chanamolu [HUF] = AAAHL4444A; General Firm = AAAFG4444A; etc.)

 

5. The next four numbers are sequential numbers running from 0001 to 9999.

6. The last digit is an alphabetic check digit.

   

The New Phonetic PAN (PPAN)

The new Phonetic PAN (PPAN) helps to prevent the allotment of more than one PAN to assesses with the same or similar names. If a matching PPAN is detected, a warning is given to the user and a duplicate PPAN report is generated. In these cases, a new PAN can only be allotted if the Assessing Officer chooses to override the duplicate PPAN detection. Under this new system a unique PAN can be allotted to 17 crore taxpayers.

  

Myths Regarding PAN

Many people believe that PAN cards are used for tax purposes only. That is a myth. PAN numbers are required for the purpose of income tax but not the actual card itself. Photocopies of PAN cards are required as prove of identity in financial transactions such as opening a bank account, purchase and sale of property and motor vehicles, home telephone lines and investments, such as demat accounts and mutual funds, just to name a few.

  

Applying for a PAN Card

Anyone can apply for a PAN card, whether they are working or not. There is no restriction on age, region or nationality. You can submit an application for an underage minor and even on behalf of a newborn. Applications must be signed by a legal parent or guardian.

  

New PAN:

· If the applicant has never applied for a PAN, does not have a PAN allotted to them, they can visit the Income Tax Department (ITD) website. The first step is to determine if a PAN has been allotted to them or not.

· If a PAN has not been allotted to them they can apply at the following sites. You can apply and track the progress of your application through both of these websites:

o UTI PAN Card Application

o NSDL Application for PAN

· To apply in person, use the following lists to find the nearest TIN-PAN Centers, NSDL TIN Facilitation Centersor UTI PAN Application Centers (for UTI, see list at bottom of page).

             

To apply for a new PAN card you need to submit at least two proofs of Identify and residence from the following sources:

· Matriculation Certificate

· Recognized Educational Institute Degree

· Credit Card

· Bank Statement

· Ration Card

· Driving License

· Voter's Identity Card

· Passport

(The above list is for individuals and HUF.)

   

Reprint of PAN Card:

· This application should be used when a PAN number has been allotted to you and you need a PAN card. A new PAN card will be issued to you with the same PAN number. Go to the NSDL website to apply for a reprint. You can go to the above mentioned NSDL and UTI sites to verify or search your PAN number.

     

In Conclusion

It is easy to see the importance of your PAN card and why you need the physical card as well as the allotted PAN number. If you do not have a PAN card, take the small amount of time need to apply for one today.

Smart Money Inc. MF schemes that reported best and worse performance

Some of the best performers among India's fund houses and the men in blue, who won the World Cup last month, have a few things in common, consistency in performance over a sustained period and team effort.

The best fund houses in the country have been the ones whose schemes have figured in the top rankings for long even during a difficult phase. For the Indian mutual fund (MF) the going has been tough given the volatility in the financial markets and redemptions.

Stiff competition from traditional investment products that offer guaranteed returns are also weighing heavy on the industry. The weak performance of several fund schemes has also dampened investor sentiment.

ET Quarterly MF Tracker analyses some of the schemes that reported a robust performance despite uncertainties in the financial markets and also schemes that were once performing well, but are now falling out of investor favour.

SIMPLY CONSISTENT:

However, some fund houses have posted robust and consistent performance and managed to retain investor confidence.

HDFC Asset Management

Despite market swings, redemptions and investor anxiety, HDFC Asset Management has performed well. Assets under management (AUM) of the fund house have doubled in the past three years to Rs 86,282 crore even as the industry AUM has grown by barely 32%.

While HDFC did face a testing time in 2007, when most of its schemes underperformed peers, it bounced back in the very next year. The years that followed have also been very good. The astute management skills of fund manager, Prashant Jain, have helped HDFC top the Platinum rankings in the ET Quarterly MF Tracker, and also to boost fresh investments for its schemes.

Reliance Asset Management

It is India's largest mutual fund house in terms of assets under management. The fund house was the first to edge out UTI from the pole position in terms of total assets.

Reliance Asset Management has shown a consistent performance for over five years now. While the fund house came under attack for taking huge cash calls during the financial crisis of 2008, the strategy helped in terms of its assets not eroding substantially during the meltdown. After a brief inconsistent performance last quarter, the fund house seems to be gaining momentum once again.

IDFC Asset Management

With an average AUM of just over Rs 21,000 crore, IDFC does not even feature in the top 10 fund houses by size. It has, however, made a mark on the basis of sheer performance on both the equity and debt fronts.

Under the guidance of Kenneth Andrade, IDFC stands out especially in the category of mid and small-cap funds. Its schemes have done well both during a rally and also during a downturn. Two other fund houses that need a special mention for their consistent performance are DSP Blackrock and Birla Sun Life Asset Management.

While DSP Blackrock's Equity, Top 100 and Small and Midcap equity schemes have figured in the list of the most consistent performers for the quarter together, Birla Sun Life's Frontline Equity , Dividend Yield Plus and Midcap Equity schemes have boosted the fund house's credentials.

FADING OUT?
Indian fund houses have come under pressure due to lack of performance. Here are some of the fund houses that were once popular with investors but whose performance has weakened over a period.

SBI Magnum Asset Management

SBI Magnum has long enjoyed the trust of investors; especially with its flagship schemes, Tax Gain and Contra. These schemes command the highest AUM in the tax-saving and diversified equity categories, respectively, within the SBI bandwagon. Once a robust performer, SBI Magnum is struggling hard with the performances of its schemes today.

Its popular schemes such as Multiplier Plus, Emerging Businesses, COMMA and even Contra and Tax Gain have been downgraded in ratings over a period of time. There is an urgent need for the fund house to gear up and regain the glory it enjoyed under its erstwhile managers Sandip Sabharwal and then Sanjay Sinha.

HSBC Asset Management

Once a popular fund house, HSBC Asset Management has been losing out on all fronts for quite some time.

Not only has its flagship scheme Equity has gone down in ratings considerably, the fund house is also struggling with its other schemes such as Midcap Equity, Dynamic, India Opportunities and Progressive Themes. However, its Tax Saver Equity scheme has put up a relatively better performance. The fund house has forayed into the international market with the launch of a Brazil fund.

BUDDIES IN THE LIMELIGHT

They were little known among the investor community until a few quarters ago. Today, however, their products are in demand considering their good show.

Canara Robeco Asset Management

Despite being a part of the MF industry for almost two decades, Canara Robeco came to the limelight only after partnering with the Robeco Group in 2007.

Its schemes such as Tax Saver, Equity Diversified and Balanced have been topping the charts consistently for nearly nine quarters, and the fund house has been recognised for its debt schemes as well. All this happened under the management of Anand Shah, who took over as the head of equities in 2008. However, with Shah's exit from the fund house a few months ago, anxious investors will be scanning its performance.

Fidelity Asset Management

Fidelity enjoys an international parentage and entered the Indian markets in 2004. Its schemes such as Tax Advantage, Equity and India Growth, are some of the best performers. With an asset base of about Rs 9,300 crore, it is reckoned as one of the fastest growing new fund houses in the country.
