Job Description: Desktop Management Engineer / Lead Engineer / Architect / End Point Management SME
This position requires a SME with expertise in Windows 7 Deployment processes, Image Development and deployment with MDT and SCCM OSD, design and administration of Microsoft SCCM (all versions) in a large enterprise, and SCCM based reporting. The candidate should be familiar and experienced in all areas of Managed Desktop Services, including those mentioned above, along with application packaging (MSI, AppV, Thin Client), GPO Administration, Level 3 and 4 Support, and to provide consulting advisory and technical delivery services for special projects related to these services.
Day to Day Work
This is a versatile role providing technical leadership and process assessment and development in the End Point Management (Desktop Management) service streams. The Technical SME role is asked to contribute to the estate of knowledge and process development for delivering End Point Management Services by participating as a Subject Matter Expert in Software Deployment Technologies, Image Development, Application Packaging, and to provide oversight and interface with offshore or remote service teams.
The EPM SME must effectively work with other technologists in our teams to define and execute our service strategies. This role often will interface with counterparts from our client businesses and our Account Management Teams, as well as with technology team members from our organization.
This candidate will be called upon to help manage, configure, and implement new features on primary tooling platforms such as Microsoft SCCM 2012.
The candidate will also serve as a top tier support resource for evaluating and remediating complex technical challenges faced by our clients and technology teams.
This position is for an onsite client-facing assignment. Often major elements of the work can be performed remotely, however the emphasis is on local onsite service. Candidate must be highly skilled administering and configuring Microsoft SCCM and utilizing it for software, patch, and operating system deployment. Candidate will also work extensively with Microsoft MDT in support of the image management work including creation of new images, and incorporation of new hardware into existing images. Knowledge of Windows 7 Deployment Technologies and image development, application packaging, and GPO Administration are also key skills.
Key Responsibilities
Analyzes and evaluates major system project requirements of considerable complexity requiring a thorough understanding of all parameters affecting and interfacing with the system. Reviews user requirements and provides direction in the identification of problem and potential resolution. Provides analytical support in the conceptualization, development and implementation of complex, multiple inter-linked systems or processes. Defines system objectives and prepares system design specifications to meet user requirements and satisfy interface problems. Formulates logical statements of user requirements and develops solutions through application of systems and methods of engineering techniques. Reviews alternate approaches and selects appropriate methodology. Recommends corrections in technical applications and analysis. Evaluates vendor capabilities to provide required products or services. Performs moderately complex systems modeling, simulation and analysis.
Applies extensive technical expertise, and has full knowledge of other related disciplines. Develops technical solutions to complex problems requiring the regular use of ingenuity and creativity. Work is performed without appreciable direction. Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment. Completed work is reviewed from a relatively long-term perspective, for desired results. Guides the successful completion of major programs and may function in a project leadership role. Erroneous decisions or recommendations would typically result in failure to achieve major organizational objectives. Represents the organization as the prime technical contact on contracts and projects. Interacts with senior internal and external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations. Provides technical consultation to other project teams within the assigned program. May provide work leadership for lower level employees.
Technical and Behavioral Skills
High School diploma or GED required
Related 4 yr. College degree preferred
Excellent communication skills required
5+ years of MS Windows deployment experience required
5+ years of SCCM experience required
Windows 7 deployment experience required
Microsoft MDT experience required
Application Packaging experience required (MSI, AppV, and Thin Client)
Team Leadership Experience in a large Enterprise Environment is required
Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written, are needed.
